THE WAYS WE WORSHIP

Our worship styles are distinctive for each of our services. Our weekday services are held in our historic chapel using Rite I traditional language and an east facing altar. On Sundays we offer three different styles of worship in our Nave. All of our services are dignified and beautiful to both the eyes and the ears, but they are also warm and inviting.

If you are unfamiliar with Episcopal services, they are liturgical (meaning we have a written service that we follow), they are scriptural (Bible readings are included in all services), and they are participatory (the congregation reads and responds throughout the service). The Book of Common Prayer, 1979 is the basis of all of our worship even in our Contemporary Service. A recent Newsweek article on religion in America noted that a growing number of people are following the book's Morning Prayer liturgy, because they're drawn to the beauty of the language.

7:30 a.m. – Holy Communion / Rite I in the Nave
The Rite I Holy Communion retains the beauty and dignity of the liturgical style and Elizabethan English found in earlier versions of the Prayer Book. This service is held in the Church and is ideal for those who enjoy quiet early worship without music.

9:00 a.m. – Contemporary Service / Rite II in the Nave
This is our Holy Communion service with contemporary music and modern language. This is our largest service with children and adults of all ages. The first lesson from the Bible is told as a story rather than read. The entire service is projected using video technology so that everyone can follow along without having to use a Prayer Book or Hymnal.  The music is easy to both sing and understand while reinforcing the message of worship. This is a great place for the children to learn about and experience "formal" worship as well as a wonderful place for adults to worship together with their children.  The service is held year round at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings in the Church.

11:00 a.m. – Holy Communion / Rite II in the Nave
The 11:00 Holy Communion uses Rite II of the Book of Prayer Book, 1979. This service is a favorite of many longtime Episcopalians and is nearly as well attended as the Contemporary Service. This service features hymnody and special music led by the Christ Church Choir with organ. Our organ is one of the finest in the nation and is a worthy accompaniment to the dignity and holiness of this service.
